Good article. Once you have completed everything and paid the fines, it's not so bad after all. DUI's are not crimes.T hey are more to be seen as bad judgments. No one goes through life without making mistakes. Soak it up, paid the fines and never do it again.

Thank you for sharing our story. Spoke to the police today and he is still in jail apparently it's not his first DUI and will be in jail for a while

So glad to hear you used a DD and that all of you are ok. DUIs in Cali are NOT a picnic and this guy will definitely wish he wouldnt of driven like that.

Great info. I was naturally suspicious of taking a breath test at a checkpoint and askedfor a blood test. The officer was noticeably upset but had to comply. When the llab results came back about two weeks later it was a " set aside" ,,, no blood alcohol level was ever detected at or above the 0.08 level . Case closed .

I have never drunk or used drugs and drove. However I resent and refuse to participate in the "fish net" mentality of checkpoints. The percentage of dui drivers caught is tiny compared to the other ticket writing joy. With the States genius approach to stripping everyone of their license, many times without notice, the real intent here is to catch those evil people trying to continue to make a living and pay off what they owe.

I like Beck's approach. he knows DUIs are solely money makers for the police and city. Its ridiculous, that if you get a DUI (which is actually hard NOT get in Orange County, CA) that you are labeled an alcoholic. Absolute stupidity. That's like saying everyone who's had a speeding ticket needs to go to Anger Management classes because speeding is an aggressive behavior. Christ, and to fire the guy? Nice work LAPD. Keep up the grand reputation...idiots.

This is a great idea and well-executed site. Thanks for making this happen and making it free.

However, as one who abstains from drinking, I can tell you that this has a much higher value - deterring people from going through these unlawful, unconstitutional, intrusive, annoying and did I mention, illegal "checkpoints." Thought those were the domain of Nazi Germany and here we have to endure the government checking our "papers" whenever they feel like it. Just sickening.
